Hooray for the Weekend!

Well, it's FINALLY the weekend again. This week has seemed to drag on, and I'm so glad it's over! Not much happened--other than that I was sick, Alan was sick, and we had a surprise birthday party for Somers. :)

I'm still trying to get over my cold I got last Friday, and I thought I'd given it to Alan as well, but apparently he had something entirely different, thank goodness for ME, because he had the stomach flu. Poor guy. On Monday he just laid on our couch and was totally out of it, and Tuesday when he didn't come over, Krista and I panicked (it's a rare day when he DOESN'T come over now, so if he's gone, it's noticeable). On our way back from the Creamery, we stopped at his apartment to check up on him and see if he was okay, and, as it turns out, he wasn't really. He'd been throwing up and sleeping all day. Yuck. Well, yuck to the throwing up part. :)

He'd only had some apple juice for the day, and so Somers and I took him to the Creamery (he hadn't thrown up in a while so we figured he should try to eat something) to get him some dinner and then took him back to our place, where Somers made him some mashed potatoes, since that was the only thing he said he would eat. And, as I warned him, he ended up throwing up again. But he said it was worth it to eat the potatoes and get SOMETHING in him. I don't think I've ever seen someone as pale as he was.

I also had a little learning experience this past week/weekend. I've recently come to realize just how easy my life is, and how absolutely blessed I am. I'll just create a little list to show exactly how good I've had it lately :)

1. We got the second to last apartment at The Regency when there were still like, 50 other girls there waiting.
2. Since I was sick, I ended up sleeping right through the last time I could take my religion exam, I freaked out, I emailed my professor, and he let me take it whenever I was ready this week within his office hours without any penalty for missing it, just because I was sick :)
3. When I finally took my religion exam on Wednesday, I didn't feel prepared for it at all, but I'm pretty sure I answered just about every question right.
4. I realized how awesome my roommates are and how lucky I am that we're all good enough friends that we ALL wanted to live together again, which doesn't normally happen people's freshman year.
5. I've gotten all my work done quickly and had a TON of relaxation time this week.
6. Even though I stayed up until 5:30 on Wednesday night/Thursday morning talking to Somers, I was still awake for the whole day.
7. Last night we had an awesomely fun surprise birthday party for Somers at her sister's fancy apartments (she lives in the rich people apartments)
8. My workload is not hard at ALL and probably won't EVER be that hard--at least compared to Mal's or Krista's. They stay up forever doing work. For every hour of homework they do, I do about a minute. :)
9. I've got an awesome job that I don't have to do squat for and get about 400 bucks every two weeks. And it also looks really good on my resume with my major. :)
10. I live really comfortably--true our apartment may not be the biggest apartment on the planet, but it's pretty good, it's clean, it looks relatively new compared to other apartments, and I actually have more space in my room than I did at home. And next year I'll have an even bigger apartment. :P

So those are some reasons why my life is terrific. :) I've also been doing a lot of thinking (I had a lot of downtime this week, as you can probably tell) about what I want to do for a career and in the upcoming years. And I have finally come to a tough decision. Actually, my RA made it really easy for me to make a decision, but BEFORE she came over last night, it was a tough one. :)

I really REALLY love makeup. I would absolutely love to be a cosmetologist, but the problem is, I still want to go to BYU and they don't have a cosmetology program here. I would also really love to work for Disney as a cosmetologist. But in order to do that, they want me to either have a license or experience. In order to get a license, I have to attend two years of beauty school, and the tuition for beauty school is 2000 MORE than what tuition for BYU is. But I know I would have a LOT more fun as a cosmetologist than as a publishing editor. Don't get me wrong--I love editing, and I love reading, and I know I would enjoy that job. But I think that I would always regret not taking the chance to possibly work as a cosmetologist. So. I was debating whether or not I should contact a beauty school and see if it was possible for me to not be like, enrolled at the beauty school, but just take a few classes so that I could get experience and hopefully Disney would like that. But I wasn't sure what BYU would think of me taking classes from another school, or the beauty school having me not really be a student there, so that was kind of difficult.

BUT THEN. My RA came over last night to return Somers' apron, and she stayed and talked with us for a bit, and we got on the topic of makeup and how I really wanted to work at Disney as a cosmetologist, and she told me that BYU has makeup classes!!! In the Theater and Media Arts major they have several classes teaching theater and stage makeup, as well as prosthetics. So my plan now is to stay in the English major and get a degree with that, but also take the makeup and theater production classes so that I have experience, which I think will appease Disney for makeup experience :) So then I will work at Disney over the summers as a cosmetologist, which would be SO COOL because I'd get all the people ready for the major shows there and help with photoshoots and stuff, and then I'd have a degree in English so that I could be a publishing editor if I wanted to. Then I'd have TWO options. :)

So that is my grand plan for now. I'm really excited about the makeup classes. In Makeup 2, we start working with prosthetics and advanced theater makeup, so I'm thinking I'll take Makeup 1 next semester and Makeup 2 for winter semester, and then work at Disneyland over next summer. At least, that's my plan for now. :)

Well, tonight we were SUPPOSED to go to some hot springs, play night games, and then watch The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in someone's car, but everyone BAILED like I figured they would, and so now we're not going to the hot springs or playing night games. Soooo.... We're watching Madagascar 2 and Benjamin Button in the same night.... :)

And tomorrow we're going to see Vocal Point, which should be awesome. I'll update again later once I actually know everything we're doing. :)
